Nick Cave is a US-based artist and educator working in different media including performance art projects. The renowned artist has exhibited internationally and among his most masterful series are the fabric wearable sculptures Soundsuits. These costumes are inspired by African and Haitian garments and are about “creating a second skin that conceals race, gender, and class, forcing the viewer to look without judgment.”
His costumes play the main role in Nick’s performances as a “second” skin. Thus Nick Cave combines dance and sculptures to develop a unique style of his performances. Though he claims that his art is not connected to fashion, but can be an inspiration for a fashion world. An artist is inspired by African and Haitian garments, and he creates a link between function and art itself.
